Striding past patches of rich exposed dirt along a grass-trimmed trail, a young boy would carry a haul of sticks within his arms, the back edges laboring themselves for balance over his slim shoulders. Bees would buzz past, adding a peaceful serenity to the silent evergreen garden. His feet, which were left uncovered- bore soft pink scars and old lacerations, healed over from a time now unfamiliar to most who could recollect his old name. leaves would flutter past, some tucking themselves into the light wavy locks from his hair, which had found itself framing past his face ever so slightly in a mass of scruffy yet soft strands. Glistening eyes would keep themselves locked in preoccupation to the ground, an ounce of attentiveness now and then when bright earthly eyes would grace luminous blue skies, and count the clouds that would swiftly come by, offering shade from a blissfully warm sun. It bathed all the land in exquisite golden hues, painting the boy a frame of wonder. On such a beautiful and hospitable day, one could only wonder why’d he been so cautious, eyes rarely leaving the ground. A gaze targeting the naturistic flooring of the trail he’d walk a day in, and day out. There it had been, as he’d stopped. A line within the grass where it starts receding. Upon the further parts of the trail, the grass would grow bitter, pale, and dead. Ugly mounds of wrappings and caps would litter the ground, soils turning into mushy gross mush filled with debris. Kneeling, he’d take a sturdy stick, and from his pocket a primitive hammering device and begin posting it up. All along other areas, this had happened, fences of bundled sticks holding up pleasantly to keep out what lie beyond. From his spot, he could see a dead barren tree, resting upon it a nest of angry hornets.
